Staples Fundraiser

Great photos from our fundraiser at Staples Bayers Lake this weekend. Our coaches and athletes raised a whopping $622! Thanks to everyone for coming out and supporting.

Recently, Special Olympics Nova Scotia featured one of our great volunteers, Kari Robertson, in a story celebration volunteerism on their website. Kari has been a volunteer with Special Olympics Halifax for over 10 years. We are so lucky to have her!

Non-contact Lacrosse Program Through Lacrosse NS

Special Olympics Halifax athletes are invited to join Lacrosse Nova Scotia for 100% non-contact play on Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 at Gorsebrook Box.

  • This program is 10 weeks long, starting July 27th
  • Open to males and females (13 years and up)
  • Cost is $5.00 total
  • Insurance is through Lacrosse NS.

Athletes need a helmet, lacrosse stick, sneakers, shorts, gloves. Hockey gear is okay. Please note that all coaches are all certified through Lacrosse NS.

Congratulations to our two basketball teams that came home with gold and bronze medals this weekend!

Team 1 Warriors (Blue) won Gold and Team 2 Warriors (White) brought home Bronze.

Congratulations to all of our athletes for displaying great Warrior Pride throughout the weekend. Also, a huge shout out and thanks to our coach and management team. Well done!

SOH Softball Beginning May 23, 2017

Special Olympics Halifax Softball will begin May 23rd, 2017.

  • Tuesdays 6-8pm at St. Francis Field

Registration will be at the first practice on May 23rd. Anyone hoping to attend Summer Games with this team should be present for this practice to express their interest.

New Program starting for Special Olympics

We are excited to announce that there is a new Youth Program starting up for Special Olympics in May called Youth Multisport.  This program has been created as the next step in the Youth series following Active Start and FUNdamentals.

The program will encompass a number of sports and prepare the athletes for our main sports in Special Olympics.  The pilot will cover basketball soccer and softball in the spring.  Athletes can use the skills they learned in FUNdamentals and start playing the games. 

Here are the particulars:

  • When: Starting, May 26th, 7-8 pm
  • Where: Canada Games Centre, 26 Thomas Raddell Drive, Halifax
  • Who: All Special Olympics eligible athletes ages 13-16(ish) and their siblings.  Newcomers welcome
  • Cost: Free
  • Bring: Indoor shoes and athletic clothing
  • Registration: By email (mlandry@sportnovascotia.ca) or at the door on May 26th
  • Supplied: Once registered, athletes will receive a t-shirt and water bottle
